Apprentice of Year Competition
The National Skills Competition has been running since 1956 and in June this year over 100 apprentices and students from around Ireland competed in DIT for the much coveted Silver Medal Award over the four days of competition. The overall competition included fifteen different skills sets with particular focus on the Motor Industry in the areas of Automobile Technology, Autobody Repair, Car Painting, and Heavy Vehicle Mechanics.
The winners in each skill area received the prestigious Silver Medal Award from the Minister of Education and Science, at a special function held in the Mansion House, and may also have the opportunity to represent Ireland in the World Skills Competition in Canada in 2009.
