The SIMI liaises with the Road Safety Authority and the Department of Transport with respect to Road Safety policies and initiatives. The Society advises member companies on issues relating to vehicle testing and legislation including National Car Testing, Commercial Testing and European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. The SIMI previously operated a Road Safety Committee which helped delivered safety campaign, message to motorists and is a signatory of the European Road Safety Charter. This Road Safety Committee has now been replaced by the estabilshment of the SIMI Road Safety Strategy Group.
The Board of the SIMI has established a Road Safety Strategy Group with a view to making a significant contribution to improving Safety on our roads and to support the Road Safety Authority’s (RSA) Road Safety Strategy 2013 to 2020. The Group was established under the term of SIMI President James Brooks and the Strategy Group will continue the development of the Industry’s strategic approach on Road Safety issues during the Presidency of Mark Boggan and beyond that into the future.
The RSA’s National Road Safety Strategy is comprised of 144 recommendations. The RSA’s collective objective is to complete each of the required pieces of work over the life of the Strategy. The SIMI is a recognised stakeholder in this process and a number of the objectives require the input of SIMI to succeed.
In addition to these strategic objectives, the SIMI has recognised a number of areas where the Motor Industry could support the overall aims of the Road Safety Strategy.
Further updates will follow shortly from the SIMI Road Stategy Group.
We all have a part to play to ensure that our roads are safe
