The Traveller Apprenticeship Incentivisation Programme (TAIP)

The Traveller Apprenticeship Incentivisation Programme (TAIP) is an innovative initiative that allows motor industry employers to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse workforce, while also addressing real skills needs in the sector.

Launched in 2023 and funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, TAIP is administered by the Irish Traveller Movement, with the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) proud to support and promote the programme across the industry.

TAIP is designed to support members of the Traveller community to access and sustain high-quality apprenticeships through structured, work-based learning.

Through the programme, participants receive:

  • Support connecting with employers committed to inclusive hiring practices
  • One-to-one guidance from national outreach officers
  • A €3,000 bursary to support them through their apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship

TAIP also works directly with motor businesses to create inclusive environments where apprentices can grow, succeed, and contribute meaningfully to the team.

Why Partner with TAIP?

By taking part in TAIP, your business can:

  • Help remove barriers and promote diversity and inclusion across the motor industry
  • Receive a €2,000 employer grant to assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training costs
  • Demonstrate leadership in inclusive recruitment and social impact
  • Access a motivated, supported talent pool from an underrepresented community

Let’s Work Together

TAIP is actively seeking motor industry employers who are open to welcoming Traveller apprentices into their workshops, garages, or teams. Whether you're new to apprenticeships or already have apprentices in your business, TAIP can help make the process inclusive, efficient, and rewarding.
