February sees further disappointment in new car registrations

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) today released their official new vehicle statistics. New car registrations for February were down 7.7% (13,915) when compared to February 2019 (15,069). Registrations year to date are also down 4.9% (45,096) on the same period last year (47,439).

Disappointing January for new car sales but significant improvement in emissions

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), today released the official 201 new vehicle registration figures for January along with their Motor Industry Review Update 2020. New cars registrations for January are down 3.5% (31,251) when compared to January 2019 (32,370). Light Commercial vehicles (LCV) are up 2.1% (5,666) compared to January last year (5,548). HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations are showing an increase of 8.8% (385) in comparison to January 2019 (354).

Temporary Suspension of Vehicle Inspection Lift in NCTS - January 2020

NCTS have made the decision to temporarily discontinue the use of vehicle inspection scissor lifts across the NCTS network of 47 centres with immediate effect until a full condition survey of all lifts is completed.

New vehicle registration statistics were release today, by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI). The stats show that the total new car registrations for the month of November are up 19.2% (769) when compared with November 2018 (645). New car registrations year to date are down 7% (116,888) on the same period last year (125,529).

During the Conference, economist Jim Power highlighted the stark challenges facing the Irish Motor Industry in the face of both Brexit and Budget 2020. SIMI Director General, Brian Cooke underlined the importance of no increases in VRT on new cars in the upcoming Budget.
